IELTS MOTIVATION
You’ve booked the exam and it’s time to start your preparation. And maybe it’s the second time or your third time but this time you are going to pass. You are determined, you have to pass. So what are you going to do to get it right this time? Fantastic question. I’ll answer it in a second.
Hello there. My name is Ben Worthington from IELTS podcast. In this video we are going to look at IELTS motivation strategies. It is often overlooked by so many IELTS experts and tutors. The idea of motivation. I know, personally from tutoring, from coaching, and from helping so many students, that motivation is a fundamental aspect that just cannot be overlooked. Without the motivation you are not going to do the prep and you are not going to make a good use of your time and you are probably going to end up wasting your money.
That’s why it’s such an important element. I introduced it sentence guide costs at IELTSpodcast.com I really do believe that without the motivation the results are nearly 50% of what they should be. So, how do you get yourself motivated for the IELTS exam? Fantastic question! Well, I did a podcast on this a few weeks ago and it got a good response from the students. I thought I would just go over it bits of it.
First of all, one really good technique is visualizing. Visualize it. You are going to get the results. You are going to get the band 7 It does sound a little bit Hocus Pocus and it doesn’t sound like a concrete strategy. What I found is that a student that would visualize on it. Of course the 7, band 7 is not going to appear but that is the process, it starts getting you thinking about it day and night. If you are thinking about it day and night you are much more likely to start studying. So just that thinking about the band 7, just before you go to bed, just after you wake up, carry it around. You can just go up to YouTube and just put visualization techniques or visualization strategies: loads of videos. Also, while you are there on YouTube, put motivational strategies, motivational videos and BAM, you will find loads of techniques and they are really helpful. Choose one that works for you and nail it. Use it every day. This will get you into the mindset and will give you a very good tuning for your brain so you start doing the IELTS every single day. An hour a day, in the mornings, in the evenings, whenever. Change your media. If you are watching I don’t know South Park or if you are watching some cartoons try to start changing it to media that will be helpful with your exam. If you are listening to music on your way to work, change it to something else. Podcasts or change it to some material that is going to help you get your goals. Change your environment and your routine.
Now, another good method is doing five things a day. Set a pledge that you are going to do. Make a promise that you are going to do five things a day that will help you get nearer to your goal to pass the IELTS exam. Just five things a day, completed every day, and you are in with a much better chance of passing.
Then, if you add this to the 100% rule. The 100% rule is: I will do it no matter what, 100%. 100% means all of the time. So if you have forgotten and you go to bed and then you remember, get out of bed and do those five tasks. What could the five tasks be? Well, you could make a list of all the words that you spell incorrectly in a previous essay and just write them out. Do a spelling test, that’s one thing. Maybe if you are more determined you could do a practice test every single day until the exam. Or you could do one online grammar test. Grammar tests are easy, they are free. Just say “I am going to spend 15 minutes a day, improving my grammar, doing an online grammar test.” Do five tasks likes that, every single day for thirty days, until the exam. You are going to increase your chances considerably.
