Accelerate – to happen faster or earlier; to make something happen faster or earlier

Acquire – to get or buy something

Adolescent – a young person who is developing into an adult
Adolescent = 10-19
Youth = 15-24
Young people = 10-24

Albeit – formal for although used to add information inside a sentence
The nation is adapting, albeit slowly, to the new global economy.

Attain – to succeed in getting something, usually after a lot of effort
attain (a) master’s degree/standard/level/proficiency/mastery

Attribute – to say or believe that something is the result of a particular thing
be commonly attributed to
be generally attributed to
be usually attributed to

Await – to wait for somebody/something
Scientists are still awaiting the results of tests.

Breakthrough – an important development
To represent/achieve a breakthrough for somebody
a significant breakthrough in computer science

Commence – to begin

Commodity – something that is useful or has a useful quality
Time is a valuable commodity.

Consecutive – following one after another in a continuous series
Interest rates rose for the fifth consecutive month.

Constitute – to be considered to be something; to be the parts that together form something

Correlate – if two things correlate, they are closely connected and affect or depend on each other

Deprive – to prevent somebody from having something important

Deteriorate – to become worse

Devise – to invent a plan, system, object
The scheme is devised for young people in the 15 – 20 age band.

Elucidate – to make something clearer by explaining it more fully
The reasons for the change in weather conditions have been elucidated by several scientists.

Exaggerate – to make something seem larger than it really is
The media exaggerate the risks and benefits of research findings.

Exacerbate – to make something that is already bad even worse (problem or situation)
Rising energy costs, which are a result of a growing scarcity, as well as inflation, are exacerbating the situation.

Exert – to use authority, power, influence, etc. in order to make something happen; to make a big physical or mental effort
Exert yourself
In order to be successful one would have to exert himself.

Expenditure – the act of spending or using money; an amount of money spent
a reduction in public/government/military expenditure

Facilitate – to make something possible or easier
To facilitate learning, each class is no larger than 30 students.

Immense – extremely large or great
There is still an immense amount of work to be done.
The benefits are immense.

Imminent – (especially of something unpleasant) likely to happen very soon
imminent disaster/danger

Incur – to experience something, usually something unpleasant, as a result of actions you have taken
to incur debts/fines/bills

Misconception – a belief or an idea that is not based on correct information, or that is not understood by people
a popular misconception

    Can we use elucidate for clarifying sentence instead of " to clarify" or " what I mean by this is that" , such as "to elucidate"

    as far as i know you are a Muslim and you are from a Muslim country. being a Muslim how you wore this types of shameless cloth?? where in your religion this is strictly ruled and prohibited to not wear this types of brazen cloth.

    Mam i had used these words both in my soeaking and writing with some additional vocabulary what i should hope how much score will i get inreturn after walking in your footsteps my test was on 24 it was very easy and with my determination and hardwork as well as with your guidance i hope for my best but i am little bit scared . Please suggest me something mam u are always a helping hand for everyone .

    Hi Asia, i got 7 in speaking, 6.5 in writting, 5.5 in reading and 5 in listening and 6 overall. This was in March, i was advised by my immigration consultant to retake the exam and obtain atleast 6 in each section. Im booked for next week Saturday. I am still experincing difficulties with reading, how can you help me please?
